From Disconnection to Connection
“The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” ~ Hippocrates
Embodiment was once a foreign concept for me. I felt disconnected and uninspired, as if I was missing some “secret” that might allow me to experience life more fully. I wanted to understand myself, my body, and my patterns of responding to the world. This desire led me on a decade-long path full of yoga, dance, therapy (no surprise there, huh?), play, and plenty of nourishing time in community. Through this, I began to understand that so many of my experiences were actually attempts by my nervous system to find safety and connection in the context of unrecognized trauma. At the root of this journey was finding my way back to my body. Via this connection to my soma, what once felt like painful disconnection gradually transformed into a life full of vitality.
Somatic Therapy & How I May Support You
I am a relational somatic therapist, meaning that I deeply value authentic connection with my clients, and I believe that our bodies have an important story to tell. Together, we will make space for both what is spoken and what is felt, accessing the wisdom of the body and the power of the present moment. Therapy with me is a space to welcome all aspects of your experience, and I provide a steady, easeful groundednesss where grief, pain, and fear can coexist alongside connection, joy, and laughter.
The body remembers material, such as emotions, stressors, and trauma, that continually impacts our lives in potentially unknown and implicit ways. Somatic approaches may help you access what your body’s feeling that your mind may be avoiding, blocking, or unable to fully access. Our work may tap into movement, imagination, play, or other body awareness techniques. What we incorporate will be centered around your unique story and context. Together, we can meet the challenges of life with greater access to the resources already within you. If you are feeling stuck, lost, or searching for meaning, our work can create the spaciousness needed for new choices to unfold.
More About Me
“In healing we walk in circles, returning to old ways of being with a new way of seeing” ~ Unknown Author
Some days, I love to rest, cook, and tinker around on my guitar. Other days, I love to dance, sing, and explore new facets of movement. Lately, that has been a journey into calisthenics (I never knew my muscles could be this sore), as well as contact improvisation. While I am grateful to have a life full of inspiration, I am still learning to live in honor of my inner rhythms and the needs of my ever-changing body. I find that in this fast-paced, demanding world, I feel constantly asked to live beyond my capacity, and embodiment for me is a persistent process of turning inwards and returning home to the wisdom in my body. I have learned to listen to how my body communicates – such as through sensation, impulse, or movement – helping me recognize how to move towards greater balance and harmony in my life. This process of embodiment can be messy, uncomfortable, and imperfect, and I think that is beautiful.
My Education & Training
I received my Master’s in Somatic Psychotherapy at Naropa University in Boulder, CO. I also have a background as a yoga instructor. Further training includes:
● Somatic therapy
● Experiential therapy
● Internal Family Systems/Parts Work (IFS)
● Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
● Gestalt
● Trauma-focused therapy
● Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
● Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
● Narrative therapy
My holistic approach is a blend of neuroscience, somatic psychology, attachment theory, and mindfulness. I can help you cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and with others by moving from patterns of disconnection towards rituals of connection.
Because the nervous system learns through experience, healing needs to go beyond the "why" and allow the unfolding of new experiences- ones of safety, being seen, having choice, and staying present amidst challenge. Together, we can create these experiences and discover new ways of being. I'm here for you, and I hope you reach out for a free consultation.
